Planter with Antique Typography
It's time for another Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest.… The theme for October is "SPRAY IT PRETTY" so you can imagine what I received to make my project easier...

This month's sponsor is Home Right and I have been wanting to use one of these sprayers… for forever...

(*Disclaimer:  I received this product from them for use in this challenge, but all opinions are my own)

I had an idea of what piece I wanted to use for this challenge… now to decide what paint to use… and I have also been wanting to use this paint for forever…
Old Fashioned Milk Paint…
In Bayberry Green and in Pitch Black.

So this is what I began with. All it needed was a good cleaning and some light sanding.

My Silhouette Designer Program allowed me to design the Antique style typography and allowed me to cut out vinyl as stencils for painting. All I had to do was decide on the colours.

I placed the vinyl coutout of the word Providence on the bare wood and sprayed over the entire piece with the Bayberry Green milk paint. As per the instructions for the sprayer, I strained it and thinned it a little more than it would be normally. I must have done it too thin, cause it dripped and I simply spread the excess out with a paint brush. Once the green was dry I added the vinyl cutout of the lettering and shapes that would stay green before I painted the black over top.

Here it is after the removal of all of the vinyl. The word SEED had some bleed through and I was not liking the orange tone of the lettering for PROVIDENCE. So plan B was to try and clean up the bleed through and to paint Providence in white.

The plan was to paint green underneath with black as the second layer on the entire piece. But after I saw it green, I decided to paint only the front facade in black and do the graphics on the black.

I love how the graphics look now that the lettering is no longer orange...

Here it is all finished… and I am finally pleased with the realization of the "idea" I had in mind for the piece.

Here it is with some ladder back chairs that I also painted with the sprayer... wouldn't they all look great on a porch!?

And just so you can see the difference… here is the before and after…
Let me know what you think of my "Spray it Pretty" entry.

Hope I have inspired you to get creative with your furniture flips!

Love this! Great piece. I would like to hear more about using milk paint in the sprayer. I've used sprayers (more like the next level up HomeRight sprayer) but I've steered away from milk paint thinking it was too grainy.

Karen I didn't have any problems with the paint per say... just the consistency. I made sure to strain the paint into another container using a fine weave fabric. It recommends doing this with the milk paint regardless. Hope that helps!

I love the entire piece but the lettering is really nice. I need a silhouette sooooo bad. I can't wait to get my tax refund. You always do such good work. I love to visit your blog and see what is going on.
